IVINS

It was Sunday, and after church my husband suggested we go to IVINS for lunch. I was very happy as I've not been there before, although I had heard about IVINS, the restaurant serving authentic Peranakan food.

Apparently IVINS has several outlets around Singapore. We went to the one on Binjai Park, off Dunearn Road, which was not far from our home. The restaurant is decent looking with no special decor. However, the food are very good and reasonably priced.

We ordered Hee Peow Soup, Curry Fish Head, Ngo Hiang, Honey Pork, Tauhu Goreng, two plain and one yellow rice. Actually I was very full after the meal but still could not resist having dessert. So we also ordered Buboh Cha Cha and Chendol. It is really a very satisfying meal and also quite easy on the pocket.

Great place. ! will definitely visit it again when I crave for Peranakan food as the range of dishes offered is huge. I would like to try the other dishes as well. The bill came up to S$44.10 inclusive of 1 English Breakfast tea and 1 Coca-Cola.

Hung Kang Restaurant

Last Sunday was Father's Day so I was cracking my head on Saturday night as to where to bring the two fathers in my house for lunch. Suddenly I remembered that my husband likes to eat goose and my father-in-law likes to eat steam promfet. We have not savoured these two dishes for a while. So I decided to call up Hung Kang Restaurant who specialises in Teochew dishes.

This restaurant was established in the 60s and has been in operation since then. Always wanted to try it but never did. At last we were there on Sunday and absolutely no regrets!

I ordered braised goose meat with tau kua, steam promfet, deep-fried prawn meat balls, stirfried spinach for our main dishes. We then ended the meal with yam paste with pumpkin and gingo nuts ("Oh Nee"). Every dish was delicious and done to perfection. I liked the dessert the best.

The price is quite reasonable. The total bill came up to S$109.80 including one 7-up, one Coke, two bowls of plain rice, chinese tea and towels. Will definitely frequent this restaurant again. I already know what to try next ... jellied shark's meat, ngo hiang, suckling pig, and cold crab. Can't wait for the next time.
